Gerontological Nursing Department Participation in the “Bridges of Goodness 23” Convoy in Halayeb, Shalateen, and Abu Ramad
In implementation of the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to support border regions, and under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sherif Khater – President of Mansoura University, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Azeem – Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, the Faculty of Nursing participated in the “Bridges of Goodness 23” convoy, stemming from the university’s national role in community service and supporting the state’s efforts toward sustainable development.
The convoy activities were launched under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Abeer Zakaria – Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Prof. Dr. Fatma El-Imam – Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and Prof. Dr. Heba Noshi Abd-Elaziz – Head of the Gerontological Nursing Department. The convoy witnessed active participation from the Gerontological Nursing Department, where Assistant Lecturer / Duaa Zein El-Abedein implemented several educational and awareness activities targeting the students of the Halayeb–Shalateen Nursing Institute and Nursing School, local residents, and nurses working in Halayeb, Shalateen, and Abu Ramad hospitals, during the period from Sunday, 16 November to Wednesday, 19 November 2025.
The training program included:
Health education for outpatient clinic visitors on:
Hypertension
Diabetes mellitus
Osteoporosis
Mandatory vaccinations for children as well as older adults
Management of eye diseases
Seminars for nursing school and technical institute students on:
Different body systems (digestive and respiratory systems)
Professional ethics
Health assessment
Nursing care plan for patients
Assertive communication
Methods of medication storage and handling
Vital signs measurement techniques
Promoting cultural competence and community differences awareness, and the role of nursing in multicultural societies
Guiding outpatient clinic visitors to seek care at the local health unit in case of symptoms or any unusual health phenomena, emphasizing the importance of utilizing available community resources
This participation reflects the commitment of the Faculty of Nursing at Mansoura University to support national efforts in developing healthcare professionals in border areas and improving the quality of health services, contributing to the achievement of the state’s sustainable development goals.
