Gerontological Nursing Department Council for the month of December 2021 was held on Monday, 31 January 2022 under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Soad Hassan Abd Elhameed the head of gerontological nursing department and in the presence of gerontological nursing department staff.

On Wednesday, 5/1/2021, a master’s thesis submitted by demonstrator Amal Sabry El-Sayed Ibrahim was discussed, entitled “The Relationship between Hearing Impairment and Cognitive, Psychosocial Status, and Balance Confidence among Geriatric Patients.”

The scientific content of the Department of Gerontological Nursing

First: the theoretical content of the curriculum of Gerontological Nursing and includes the following:

• Introduction to Elderly Nursing.
• Physiological changes of the elderly
• Psychosocial changes of the elderly.
• Improving the health of the elderly.
• Communicate with the elderly.
• Health care providers.
• Trends towards the elderly.
• The elderly move from one place to another.
• Elder abuse.
• Senile dementia

Second: The practical part is divided into two parts:

Part I: Training and Skills inside the Laboratory:

• Balance exercises for the elderly.
• Parkinson's disease.
• Utilities for the elderly (movement - daily activities and personal care).

Part II: Seminars on: 

• Osteoporosis in the elderly.
• Joint roughness in the elderly.
• Diabetes in the elderly.
• Urinary incontinence in the elderly.
• Stroke in the elderly.
• Constipation in the elderly.
• Fall between the elderly.
• Bar Kenson's disease.
• Safe environment for the elderly

Activities carried out by the Department of Geriatric Nursing

- Awareness campaign for Mansoura University employees about: -

• Osteoporosis
• Roughness of joints
• Dementia of old age
• Healthy nutrition for the elderly

- Seminars in nursing for the elderly faculty members in the department.

- Seminars for faculty members in the department on heart disease in the old age.

- Celebration of the International Day of the Elderly on the first of October - faculty members club Mansoura University.

Second: Activities outside the University:

The beginning of practical training of Gerontological Nursing Department

The beginning of the clinical training of Gerontological nursing department was in El Amal Club for the Elderly in Elesawy street on Sunday, 6-3-2022, the students provided health education for the elderly about Alzheimer's disease as well as students measured the pressure and sugar of the elderl

Celebration of the Gerontological Nursing Department with the first Professor of Gerontological Nursing at the Faculty of Nursing, Mansoura University

In an atmosphere full of joy and pleasure, the Department of Gerontological Nursing celebrated on Monday, January 10, 2022, the promotion of the head of the department, Prof. Dr. Soad Hassan Abd Elhameed to be Professor as the first Professor of Gerontological Nursing at the Faculty of Nursing, Mansoura University, in the presence of Dean of the Faculty of Nursing , Prof. Dr. Amina El Nemr and the Vice Dean For Postgraduate Studies and Research Affairs, Prof. Dr. Abeer Zakaria, a number of faculty members and, all department staff members.
