Measurement and assessment unit - MAU

Establishment of the unit:

The Measurement and Assessmwnt Unit was established at the Faculty of Nursing, Mansoura University, as an administratively and financially independent unit, directly reporting to the Dean of the Faculty and technically reporting to the University's Measurement and Evaluation Center. This was approved by the Faculty of Nursing Council on January 5, 2025, and by the University Council on January 9, 2025.

About the Unit of Measurement and Evaluation

The Measurement and Evaluation Unit is responsible for evaluating university performance at the college level by developing the necessary tools, whether performance indicators, questionnaires, standards, or other tools. It also compares university performance with international standards in the fields of education, learning, scientific research, and community service, and encourages academic and administrative bodies to improve performance in accordance with international practices.

Measurement and Assessment

Assessment and evaluation are the cornerstone of the development and renewal process. They serve as a tool for identifying strengths and weaknesses in the learning and teaching process, and for introducing improvements, development, and renewal. The process of assessment and evaluation is an important element of the educational process, characterized by its continuity and comprehensiveness, as it takes into account the various aspects of growth, including cognitive, motor, and emotional aspects. It creates a balance in the development of the student's personality.

The concept of evaluation and measurement

Assessment: A systematic, organized process through which data is collected and analyzed to determine the extent to which educational objectives are being achieved. Decisions are made regarding these objectives, with the goal of improving them and addressing any shortcomings, in order to provide a sound learning environment for students. Evaluation is the tool that governs the direction of the educational process.
Measurement: The process through which we arrive at a quantitative picture of the extent to which a particular characteristic exists within an individual.

The difference between Assessment and measurement

The difference between evaluation and measurement There is a difference between measurement and evaluation.

Assessment is concerned with determining the essential goals that the student must achieve through an evaluation program that includes many procedures, while measurement is used to measure mental processes or psychological characteristics in a quantitative manner, which may be in the form of oral or written questions. Assessment is more comprehensive and deeper than measurement.
