International Online conference on Global University Rankings and Enhancing the Quality of Education

Mansoura University: The Measurement and Evaluation Center Holds an International Online Lecture on Global University Rankings and Enhancing the Quality of Education

As part of Mansoura University's efforts to develop its measurement and evaluation system and enhance the quality of its higher education, the Measurement and Evaluation Center held an online scientific lecture entitled: "Global University Rankings and the Challenges of Quality Education in Higher Education Institutions."

The event was organized under the auspices of Dr. Sherif Khater, President of the University, and led by Dr. Mohamed Attia El-Bayoumi, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, and supervised by Dr. Maha El-Ashmawy, Director of the Measurement and Evaluation Center. It was attended by a number of faculty members from Mansoura University and other Egyptian universities, as well as academic participation from a South African university.

"With the participation of faculty members from the Faculty of Nursing at Mansoura University, under the guidance of Professor Dr. Abeer Zakaria, Dean of the Faculty, this initiative comes within the framework of developing the measurement and evaluation system, which contributes to improving the quality of the educational process, ensuring the accuracy of learning outcomes assessment, and raising the academic and professional competence of students." The lecture was presented by international expert Professor Moeketsi Letseka, UNESCO Chair at the University of South Africa.

The lecture offered an analytical perspective on the modern education system, exploring ways to prepare institutions to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world, particularly in light of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

It also addressed the impact of artificial intelligence on scientific research, the shift towards "guided self-learning" to enhance learner autonomy and foster lifelong learning, and the role of education in addressing climate change.

Furthermore, the lecture focused on developing assessment and evaluation systems by reviewing the three assessment models (measurement, procedure, and inquiry), emphasizing the importance of "transformative assessment" as an ongoing tool for improving the quality of learning and establishing a participatory academic culture. Regarding global rankings, the lecture provided an analysis of their various criteria, highlighting the challenges associated with measurement and evaluation standards. These challenges include the relative nature of some indicators, as well as the occasional bias favoring the natural sciences over the humanities, which presents additional challenges for universities seeking to improve their positions in international rankings.

The event concluded with an extensive discussion session that witnessed rich interaction from the attendees. Numerous questions and discussions reflected the participants' interest and eagerness to deepen their understanding of the lecture's themes.

This event supports the university's efforts to enhance academic performance by providing specialized scientific platforms for faculty members. This fosters the exchange of expertise, exposure to the latest trends in measurement, evaluation, and university rankings, and contributes to the development of academic practices.
