Seminar at the Faculty of Nursing, Mansoura University titled “The New Republic Without Violence Against Women”

Under the patronage of Prof. Sherif Khater, President of Mansoura University;
Prof. Mohamed Abdel Azim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development;
Prof. Abeer Zakaria, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing;
Prof. Fatma El-Emam, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development;
and Prof. Amina Shalaby, Rapporteur of the National Council for Women in Dakahlia,
the Faculty of Nursing, Mansoura University, in cooperation with the National Council for Women, organized a seminar titled “A Republic Without Violence Against Women”, on Sunday, 23 November 2025.

The seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Mohamed Abdel Azim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, who emphasized that every individual must know their rights and responsibilities. He highlighted that mutual respect lies in giving each person their due, and no one has the right to force another to act against their morals or values. He affirmed that Mansoura University places great importance on supporting and empowering women, and that combating violence is a fundamental part of the university’s societal mission.

During the opening, Prof. Abdel Azim presented an Excellence Shield to a distinguished student who excels academically and actively participates in community work, recognizing her as a positive role model for university students.

In her remarks, Prof. Abeer Zakaria, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, stated that violence diminishes any context it enters, while gentleness enhances and beautifies it. She highlighted the vital role of the nursing profession in addressing all forms of violence, noting that nurses are the first line of support for survivors and essential providers of help. She emphasized that the faculty continuously implements awareness programs to protect women and promote a culture of non-violence, in collaboration with the University’s Anti-Violence Unit.

Prof. Amina Shalaby, Rapporteur of the National Council for Women in Dakahlia, expressed her appreciation for the fruitful cooperation with the university. She stressed that the Council works to raise awareness of women’s rights and that combating violence is a shared responsibility between the state, civil society, and educational institutions.

The seminar hosted a lecture by Prof. Samah El-Sayed, Director of the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit at Mansoura University, who outlined the unit’s psychological, legal, and awareness services for female students, including reporting mechanisms and protection pathways. She emphasized the crucial role of youth in reshaping societal attitudes toward violence.

Prof. Rasha Al-Din, Head of the Department of International Law, Director of the Legal Clinic at the Faculty of Law, and member of the National Council for Women, then presented the legal framework for women’s protection and explained how the legal clinic offers consultations and support to survivors. She stressed the importance of enhancing legal awareness among both women and men.

The seminar was attended by several distinguished figures and leaders, including:
Prof. Mohamed Abdel Azim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development;
Sheikh El-Sayed Massoud, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments in Dakahlia;
Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Sharaf, Imam and Preacher of Al-Nasr Mosque;
Sheikh Ibrahim Hassan;
and Father Sidaros, representing the Church;
as well as Dr. Dalia El-Atribi, Member of the Senate.

Members of the National Council for Women in Dakahlia were also present, including:
Prof. Amani Ghobor, Prof. Salwa Zeid, Prof. Nashwa El-Shafei, and Ms. Ghada Atef.
